The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB ) has already announced the BACB’s newest credential – the Registered Behavior Technician™ (RBT™ ). The RBT will become the 3rd credential used by the BACB - BCBA-D (the highest), Read more about BCBA, and BCaBA the other two – in an effort at establishing training standards for behaviour technicians. Become Credentialed
An RBT is a paraprofessional (or tutor as typically called in the UK) who is responsible to implement behaviour plans directly with clients designed by the consultant. Specifically, professionals with the BCBA-D and BCBA credentials are generally responsible for service-delivery oversight (consultants) and professionals with the BCaBA credential typically act as assistants to consultants(supervisors), as opposed to individuals with the RBT credential who are responsible just for the implementation of any behavioural treatment plan.
Therefore, professionals with the BCBA-D, BCBA and BCaBA credentials become “designated RBT supervisors”.
Completion of a 40-hour training program (conducted by a BACB-D, BCBA, or BCaBA certificant) based on the RBT Task List stands as one of the most important eligibility requirements for an individual to apply for obtaining the RBT credential.
Hence, credentialed RBTs are certainly more skilful and more qualified and therefore, more confident to provide the most effective treatment to their clients, ensuring higher standards of service. In that respect, RBTs are more reputable than therapists/tutors who do not hold this credential.
This training program is based on the Registered Behavior Technician Task List (RBT Task List ) and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement for the RBT credential. The program is offered independent of the BACB as required. The course has been designed by a BCBA-D based on the RBT Task List organised in the following areas: Measurement, Assessment, Skill Acquisition, Behaviour Reduction, Documentation and Reporting, and Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice; All course or elements of it can be conducted in person or online and it will be didactic (e.g., lecture-based) or experiential (e.g., role-playing) in nature.
So far RBT training has been successfully delivered both in person and remotely to individuals from countries such as Dubai, Cyprus, South Africa and England.
